Gaming Bus Live Stream, Vol. 21: Advance Wars (GBA)

Welcome to another edition of the Gaming Bus Live Stream. Last week, I learned something: I forgot how to effectively play Streets of Rage 2. A game that I used to beat like a rented mule had me out of continues at the seventh stage. It’s a combination of rust with this game, rust with what is inherently a “cheap” genre (I can’t count the amount of times I went to hit someone only to get shrugged off), and the fact that I was more reflexive at twelve than I am in my thirties. I still love the game, but I think I’ve been relegated to playing on Easy for life.

This week’s game is a bit more cerebral and therefore a bit more my speed: Advance Wars. True story: Advance Wars was actually my first love as far as handheld SRPGs go. In fact, when I bought Fire Emblem, my main thought was, “All right, a medieval Advance Wars!” However, people forget that this series actually dates way back to the Famicom (NES) days and has been around since the late 80s. I will be playing the first GBA game, which is a good game on its own merits and a solid introduction to the characters that would be a part of the series until Days of Ruin.

As usual, the festivities start at 9:30PM EST. Come along!
