The Indie Royale group has recently released the next installment of their indie bundles: the Xmas Bundle. The games included in this bundle are The Blackwell Trilogy: Remastered, Eets, Dino D-Day, and The Oil Blue.
Blackwell Trilogy: Remastered is a point-and-click adventure game which follows the exploits of a family that helps put ghosts to rest. It has been remastered and released as an exclusive deal for the Indie Royale Xmas Bundle. The remastered version includes new features, new voiceover, and new commentary. Eets is a puzzle platformer and is described as Lemmings meets The Incredible Machine gameplay. Dino D-Day is a first-person shooter set in WWII where Nazies have brought dinosaurs back from the dead. The Oil Blue is a simulation game set in the near future that brings you into the heart of oil drilling.
If you are unfamiliar with the Indie Royale price scheme, you have to pay a preset minimum amount which goes up slowly with each purchase. The catch to bring it down is to go above and beyond the asking minimum, which lowers the minimum for every buyer after that. The price is $4.18 (at time of press), and there have been almost 18,000 bundles sold. Those looking for the lowest price should buy the bundle quickly before the price goes too much higher.
Analysis: I like the fact that the Indie Royale is mixing up the genres for their games instead of having similar genre games in the bundle. This helps cater to a wider audience and will hopefully drive greater sales. The Blackwell Trilogy is a game I’ve heard of in passing because I’m a fan of point-and-click and adventure games. I don’t recall the circumstances as to why I never picked it up, but this is as good a time as any to do so. I haven’t heard much about the rest of these games, but the videos provided have helped me see they could be fun—yes, even The Oil Blue. It calls to my micromanagement personality. This a well-rounded bundle and worth a look or two.
