Namco Bandai has announced that they’ll be releasing Dark Souls on the PC on August 24. Titled Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, the PC version will include some additional content such as new bosses, areas, enemies, and items; a PVP Online Matchmaking System; and a new chapter “where the player must stop the spread of darkness… by facing and defeating the Dark Knight Artorias.” Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is set to be released in both digital and physical formats.
Analysis: Dark Souls getting a PC release means there is a lot of potential for mods to appear, as they are apt to do with PC games. This assumes, of course, that the port will be done well enough to allow users to apply mods at all, but the potential is there. If that potential is tapped, though, the PC version of Dark Souls can become even more acclaimed than its console counterparts. All this said, I’m not sure how enticing the new content or even the mod potential will be for fans who bought one of the console versions. Would it really be worth the money to buy a second copy of a game you already own? I can’t really answer that outside of the old saying, “To each his own.” Regardless, I’m sure many fans will be happy to hear this. Here’s hoping it’s a hit.
